Frizz Free Hair – Are you a Frizz Fighter?

Our hairs cortex determines shape and color, while the cuticle is the outermost layer we manipulate and fight with every day; especially when trying to achieve frizz free hair. Able to expand and retract, the cuticle is covered in scales which can move to stick up or laying flat. A smooth cuticle where the scales lay flat is sleek, shinny, and healthy looking.  Unfortunately there are dozens of ways to agitate the cuticle causing those scales to stick up, and the hair to become frizzy and dull.

For a smooth cuticle the first and most important step to Fighting Frizz is to keep hair hydrated. When the air has more moisture than your hair, in humid weather, your hair cuticles expands sucking in moisture from the air and poof your hair is a frizz ball. Keeping your hair hydrated and healthy helps the hair to have enough moisture in the cortex to hold its style humid weather. The cuticle will not drastically expand and retract, perfect for scales to remain smooth and flat. If you do not have the patience or will to follow any of the other frizz fighting tips, then using a Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner is the best way you can make a difference to your daily beauty routine to fight frizz.

From sleep, to shower, to styling we’ve compiled a few of our favorite ways to fight frizz:

  • Cotton pillow cases can agitate the cuticle and dry out the hair as the fibers are absorbent. Switch to silk and satin pillowcases, its gentle on the hair and you will wake up with less bed head. Perfect for days when the alarm doesn’t go off and you’re in a rush to get out of the house.

  • For extra dry or fussy hair, step up the hydration once a week by treating your hair to a nourishing moisturizing hair mask. If you don’t want to invest in an expensive salon treatment, DIY masks are a great alternative.

  • Begin styling hair when it is damp, but not soaking wet. There are different ways to use brushes and blow dryer attachments based on hair type. Make sure to look up ways that are best for your hair type.
  • Silicone based styling aids lock in moisture and tames frizzy hair. Our Extra Strength Shine Serum is great for frizz, but less is more as its highly concentrated. Depending on hair type and finished style only use a pea sized amount, adding more if needed.
