Born, bred, trained, and eventually established in NYC, Mateo has worked at the most prestigious salons in town. After starting his career at The Spot on Madison Avenue, he quickly moved over to Oribe Salon on 5th Ave assisting arguably one of the best ever, Oribe Canales.
Working at such prestigious salons, education was infinite and Influence was everywhere. While being surrounded by some of the best photographers, designers, hairstylists and models in the world. (Francesco Scavullo, Walter Chin and Steven Klein to name a few) he has learned the tricks of the trade from behind the lens. Mateo has been featured as one of LA’s top stylists by many respected blogs, Refinery29, and national publications such as Allure Magazine, Playboy and American Vogue to local publications such as Brentwood and Venice magazine, to name a few..
Today, he balances his time between his vast, loyal clientele at Cristophe Salon, working with photography greats such as David Lachapelle, on camera celebrity hairstylist for E!, Style, Bravo and other networks, and creating looks for film and television.
Besides cutting hair, Mateo enjoys the culinary arts, is an avid motocyclista, target shooter, and trains in the art of Muay Thai since the late 1990’s.
His celebrity clientele ranges from models and actors, to DJs and rockstars.
